Powdered gelatine is a colourless, odourless and tasteless ingredient used as a setting agent in a variety of dishes.
- It has many uses in the kitchen and is vital for setting jellies, soufflés, cheesecakes and mousses.
- Gelatine is also great for use in savoury dishes such as setting terrines and pates.
- There are many health benefits of gelatine and can be used in a variety of ways and purposes.
This gelatine has a usage rate of 10%, for 500ml of liquid you would use 50g gelatine.
For perfect lump-free results, follow this method to dissolve the gelatine powder
- Place cold water in a small bowl and sprinkle with gelatine whilst whisking with a fork
- Set aside for 5 minutes until it becomes spongy.
- Stand the bowl inside a larger bowl of hot water and stir until the gelatine dissolves.
- Never boil gelatine as it can become string and it destroys the ability for it to set, always use the lowest temperature and heat for the shortest time.
- Cool slightly before adding to the mixture you want to set. Both mixtures should be of similar temperature to avoid any lumps.
